Never Underestimate Your Opponent

One very big mistake that a gambler can do is to underestimate his opponent in terms of the hand he has. If your opponent is good at bluffing then you just may find yourself being had and big time. Watch out for body language when trying to see if someone is bluffing. Sometimes you will catch a glimpse of a fleeting thought you were never intended to see. This is how you can see through a bluff that your opponent is trying to get over on you. Of course there are some people who could sell ice to an Eskimo so this does not always help. However, you must never let your guard down and must always be aware of the other players and what they are doing. Watch to see the kinds of cards they are playing with.

If you take your eyes off your opponents for too long then you may miss something very important. If you are playing with someone that you see winning a lot of hands then try to watch and see what this person is doing that you are not. Is he folding more often? Is he simply good at bluffing? If you can learn to mimic these people then perhaps you can learn to play like them. The most important thing is that you never take your opponents for granted or underestimate their ability to beat you in a hand, no matter how good your hand may be at the time. There is always a chance someone could have a better hand unless you have the best hand possible.
